EASTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL WINS METRO LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

May 2016

Congratulations to the Boys Golf Team on winning the League Championship this season. The team finished league play with a perfect record. This marks the fifth year in a row the Titans golf team has won the title, going undefeated in league play in as many years.

2016 was a great season for this year's underclassmen. Sophomore Jumpei Hanaoka's improved play the last part of the season helped him secure Mesa League Player of the Year, while junior Davis Haris played consistently throughout the season and was presented with the MVP award. Congrats to both! Sophomores Brian Lee and Sam Lee turned in some good rounds and look to continue their fine play next season.

The team will miss its stable of strong graduating seniors - Troy Nelson, Armando Castro and Jacky Ahn - who have helped solidify the team since they were freshmen. Two-year player, Jerome Nicdao is also heading off to college.

Matthew Modelo also graduates this year. A 3-year team captain, he was a 3-time team MVP, League champion in 2014, All-league 2013-2016, League Runner-up champion in 2013 and 2015, and was an inaugural President's Cup selection in 2013. Modelo was offered an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland with an opportunity to try out for the Mens' Golf Team. He begins his USNA career at the end of June, 2016. Incidentally, Modelo was also offered an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he was offered a spot on the Men's golf roster.
